How to choose a curtain style

Start with what is already fixed in the room: the floor, the wall colour and the main furniture. Curtains are the largest piece of fabric in most homes, so they should continue that palette rather than fight it.

Then decide how the curtain should hang. Ripple and wave folds give the even, tailored look of Japandi, Korean and minimalist rooms. Pinch pleats and heavier linings suit luxury and classic rooms. Relaxed panels on a rod suit Scandinavian and wabi sabi homes.

Finally, choose blinds for the windows where curtains get in the way, such as kitchens, studies and windows above beds, in a colour from the same family.

Question 1 of 5
Which room would you most like to live in?

Common questions

Which curtain style suits a small HDB flat?

Japandi, minimalist and Korean styles all suit smaller flats because they use light colours, ceiling-mounted tracks and floor-length fabric, which make a room feel taller and wider.

Can I mix styles across rooms?

Yes. Many homes keep one neutral fabric family in the living areas and use a darker or more textured curtain in bedrooms. Keeping the track and heading the same throughout ties the flat together.

Do I need a ceiling track for these styles?

Ripple fold and wave fold, used in Japandi, Korean and minimalist rooms, look best on a ceiling track or in a curtain box. Scandinavian and wabi sabi rooms also work well with simple rods.

Can you bring samples for a particular style?

Yes. Tell us the style when you book and we bring fabric and blind samples that suit it, so you can see them against your own walls and light.
