Scandinavian curtains and blinds

Scandinavian interiors were designed around short winter days, so every choice tries to bring more light in: white walls, pale floors, light birch or ash furniture and thin window coverings. In a Singapore flat, daylight is plentiful, but so is glare and afternoon heat on a west-facing window. We help you keep the bright, airy Scandinavian look with white and pale grey sheers, simple rods and roller blinds, while still controlling sun and keeping privacy from the next block.

Sheers first, heavier layers second

A Scandinavian living room usually leads with a sheer. A white or ivory voile softens the light, blurs the view from outside and lets the room stay bright through the day. In most homes it is the curtain that stays drawn from morning to evening.

Because our sun is much stronger than in the Nordic countries, a single sheer is rarely enough on a west or south-west window. Pairing it with a second layer, either a dim-out curtain or a sunscreen roller blind, lets you cut afternoon glare without losing the light look in the morning.

White, pale grey and a little colour

White and off-whiteThe classic Scandinavian choice. Pick a warm white or ivory if your floor is light oak, and a cooler white if the walls are pure white, so the curtain does not look yellow beside them. Ask to see the swatch in daylight and under your evening lights.
Pale and dove greyGrey hides dust and fingerprints better than white and works well for a heavier night curtain. It suits rooms with white walls and black metal details.

Simple rods and plain headings

Unlike minimalist interiors, Scandinavian rooms are happy to show their hardware. A slim rod in light wood, white or matt black, mounted a little above the window and wider than the frame, is part of the look. Eyelet and pinch pleat headings both suit a rod, and ripple fold can be used on a track if you prefer it hidden.

On a wide HDB living room window, a rod needs a centre bracket, and eyelets cannot slide past it. If you want the curtains to open fully to one side, a track is the easier option. We will look at your window width and suggest which works.

Keeping white curtains white

White sheers show dust, kitchen grease and the grey marks that humidity can leave near the hem. Washing them gently every few months keeps them bright. If the panels are long or on a high track, our curtain cleaning service can clean them on site or take them away and rehang them.

In kitchens and bathrooms, fabric near steam picks up grease and mould faster. A white faux wood venetian or an easy-clean roller blind keeps the same light look and only needs a wipe.

Question 1 of 5
Which room would you most like to live in?

Common questions

What curtains suit a Scandinavian interior?

Light sheers in white, ivory or pale grey are the starting point, often paired with a matt cotton or linen-look curtain for evenings. Hang them on a simple rod or a plain track, with eyelet, pinch pleat or ripple fold headings.

Are white sheers enough in a west-facing Singapore flat?

Usually not. They soften light but do not stop much heat or glare. Adding a dim-out curtain or a sunscreen roller blind behind or in front of the sheer gives you control in the afternoon.

Can people see in through sheer curtains at night?

Yes, when the lights are on inside. For evening privacy, draw a heavier curtain or a blind across the sheer. A pale grey dim-out curtain keeps the soft look while blocking the view in.

Should I choose a rod or a track?

A rod in light wood, white or black suits the Scandinavian look and is fine on most windows. On very wide windows a track is easier, because curtains can glide past the supports and open fully.
