Custom curtains & blinds across Singapore

Curtains and blinds for HDB and BTO flats

Collecting the keys to a new BTO flat starts a long list of jobs, and window coverings tend to arrive near the end of it, just before you move in. HDB flats share a familiar set of windows: casement windows in the bedrooms, a sliding or full-height door to the balcony or service yard, and a small window in the bomb shelter room. Curtains SG makes custom curtains and all types of blinds for HDB flats, and we measure and install them for you. A home visit lets us plan each room with you before anything is made.

The windows you will find in an HDB flat

Each type of window affects how curtains or blinds open and how much space they need beside the glass. Before the home visit, walk through the flat and note which rooms have which kind.

Casement windowsCommon in bedrooms and the kitchen. The panes swing outwards, so curtains or blinds hang clear of the handles. Check that the window grille or handles do not block a blind mounted inside the recess.
Sliding windows and doorsOften found at the service yard or in newer layouts. Curtains that stack to one side, or vertical blinds, let you open the door without lifting anything out of the way.
Full-height living room and balcony doorsThese are the largest openings in most flats. Ceiling-to-floor curtains on a long track suit them well, since they cover the full height and stack back when you step out.
Bomb shelter room windowUsually small and set in a thick reinforced wall. A neat blind or a short curtain works well here, but the fixing method needs care, as covered below.

Ceiling or wall tracks in an HDB flat

Curtain tracks can be fixed to the ceiling or to the wall above the window. A ceiling track lets curtains fall from the top of the room, which makes a standard ceiling height look taller and reduces the light gap above the fabric. A wall-mounted track or rod suits rooms where the ceiling is not a good place to fix into, or where you prefer the curtain to start just above the frame.

Some walls in HDB flats limit where you can drill. The bomb shelter has a reinforced wall with drilling restrictions, and lightweight internal partitions such as ferrolite walls need suitable fixings for any load. We check these walls at the visit and suggest a fixing that suits each window.

Ceiling trackCurtains fall from the top of the room. Works well under a flat concrete ceiling or a false ceiling with a built-in curtain box.
Wall-mounted track or rodFixed above the window frame. Suits rooms where the ceiling is not a good place to fix into, and leaves the ceiling untouched.

Choosing curtains and blinds room by room

Start with how each room is used. In bedrooms, blackout curtains or blinds help with sleep, especially if the window faces a corridor or a neighbouring block. In the living room, a day and night pair lets you keep daylight while softening the view from outside, and you can draw the heavier layer in the evening.

Kitchens and service yards are easier to manage with blinds that wipe clean and stay away from the hob. Study rooms often suit a roller blind or a Korean combi blind, which lets you adjust light over a desk without opening a full curtain. You do not need one product throughout the flat. Mixing curtains and blinds by room is common, and keeping fabrics in a related colour family helps the flat feel consistent.

When to measure, and what the home visit covers

Measure after the windows, doors and any false ceiling or curtain box are in place. If your renovation adds a false ceiling, built-in wardrobes or new flooring, the final heights and clearances change, so measuring too early can mean adjusting sizes later. A sensible plan is to book the visit once the major carpentry and ceiling work is done, then schedule installation close to the move-in date.

At the visit, we measure each window, check the ceiling and walls for fixing, and talk through fabrics, blinds and light control for each room. Home measurement visits need a $50 deposit, which is credited to your order when you buy. You can also call or WhatsApp us on +65 9071 3976 with your floor plan and questions before booking.

Common questions

When should I order curtains for my BTO flat?

Book the measurement after windows, doors and any false ceiling or curtain box are installed. Measuring before renovation work is done can mean the sizes no longer fit once carpentry and ceilings are finished.

Can you install curtain tracks on an HDB ceiling?

In many rooms, yes. We check the ceiling at the home visit and confirm whether a ceiling track or a wall-mounted track suits each window, including rooms with a false ceiling or curtain box.

What can I put on the bomb shelter window?

A small blind or a short curtain usually suits it. The shelter wall has drilling restrictions, so we look at the window at the visit and suggest a fixing method that respects them.

Should I choose curtains or blinds for my HDB flat?

Many flats use both. Curtains suit living rooms and bedrooms where you want softness and blackout. Blinds suit kitchens, service yards and study desks where space is tight or the window gets splashes.

Is there a charge for the home measurement visit?

The visit needs a $50 deposit, which is credited to your order when you buy. Call or WhatsApp +65 9071 3976 to arrange a time.
