Roman blinds made to measure
A small bedroom window in an older HDB flat, or the bay window in a condo, often feels too cramped for full curtains. The fabric bunches on the ledge and blocks part of the view even when open. Roman blinds give you the softness of fabric in a neat panel that folds up above the glass. Curtains SG makes Roman blinds to measure, with lined and blackout options.
Get a quoteHow Roman blinds work
A Roman blind is a flat panel of fabric with rods or cords sewn into the back at regular spacing. When you raise it, the fabric gathers into horizontal folds that stack neatly at the top of the window. When lowered, it lies flat like a roller blind but with the texture and drape of a curtain fabric.
Because the folds sit at the top when raised, the stack takes up some of the window height. On a tall window this barely matters. On a short window, the stack can cover a fair part of the glass, so we check the drop and suggest mounting the blind above the frame where there is room. That lets the folds sit above the glass and keeps more daylight.

Fabrics, linings and light control
You can choose from a wide range of curtain fabrics, so a Roman blind can match curtains elsewhere in the room. The lining at the back decides how much light comes through.
Best windows for Roman blinds
Small and medium windows suit Roman blinds best. Think of the bedroom window above a study desk, a window beside a bed, or a kitchen window away from the hob. They also work well in bay windows, where you can fit a separate blind to each section of glass. Each one lifts on its own, and the window seat stays clear for cushions.
They are less suited to very wide windows, where one panel becomes heavy to lift and the folds may sag in the middle. For wide glass, we usually suggest two or three Roman blinds side by side, or curtains instead. Avoid fabric blinds right next to a stove or in a shower area, as heat, grease and steam will mark the fabric.

Care and cleaning
Vacuum the fabric gently with a brush head every few weeks, working with the blind lowered so the folds are flat. Dust tends to collect along the top of each fold when the blind is left raised for long periods.
Spot clean small marks with a damp cloth. Because the rods and cords are sewn in, a Roman blind is harder to wash than a curtain, and most should not go in a home washing machine. Ask us about cleaning when you choose the fabric so you know what to expect. For curtains in the same room, see our curtain cleaning service.

Common questions
Are Roman blinds good for blackout?
With a blackout lining, the fabric itself blocks light. Some light can still enter at the sides and top, so we often suggest mounting the blind over the window frame in bedrooms.
Roman blinds or curtains for a bay window?
Roman blinds keep the window seat clear and can be raised one section at a time. Curtains on a bay track give softer coverage and fuller blackout but take more space. Both work, depending on how you use the seat.
Will the folded stack block my view?
On a short window, it can cover part of the glass when the blind is raised. Mounting the blind above the frame lets the stack sit over the wall instead. We check this at the home visit.
Can a Roman blind match my curtains?
Yes. We can make it in the same fabric as curtains elsewhere in the room. Send photos and rough sizes when you enquire, and exact measurements are taken at the home visit.
