Custom curtains & blinds across Singapore

Japanese and Muji-style curtains

A Japandi or Muji-style flat in Singapore usually starts with pale wood, white walls and very little on display. The curtains are meant to sit back in that room, so we keep them plain: natural fabrics, simple headings and light that comes through softly, a little like a shoji screen. Curtains SG makes these curtains to measure for HDB flats, condos and landed homes, and we pair them with roman or roller blinds where a full curtain would crowd a small window.

What makes a curtain look Japanese

The look depends on restraint. There is no pattern, no shiny finish and no swag or tieback. The texture of the cloth and the way daylight passes through it do the work, so a slubby linen-look weave in oat or off-white will read as Japanese far more than any printed motif.

Hardware is as important as fabric. A slim white ceiling track, or a plain wood or matte black rod, keeps the top of the window calm. In a BTO living room with a window running close to the ceiling, a ceiling-mounted track lets the curtain fall in one clean line from top to floor.

Fabrics and colours for a Muji-style room

Natural fabrics breathe well in a Singapore flat, but they react to humidity and sun more than polyester does. We point out the care needs of each fabric you shortlist before you order.

Simple headings and folds

Fullness is kept modest in this style. A curtain gathered too tightly starts to look formal, while too little fabric looks skimpy once closed, so we show you a sample fold at the visit.

Ripple fold (S-fold)Even, gentle waves that stack neatly at the side. On a slim track this is the cleanest heading for a minimal room.
Loose single pleatA light pinch pleat with modest fullness gives soft vertical lines without the formal look of a triple pleat.
Eyelet on a plain rodRelaxed and casual, which some Muji-style rooms suit. The metal rings show at the top, so choose a ring finish that matches the rod.Learn more →

Shoji-like light with sheers and blinds

During the day, a single layer of sheer or unlined linen gives the diffused glow people associate with Japanese rooms. At night, with lights on inside, a sheer alone will not give privacy, so bedrooms and rooms facing a neighbouring block usually need a second layer.

Adding a blackout lining to a linen curtain makes it heavier and changes how it falls. We often suggest keeping the visible curtain light and putting the darkness in a separate layer instead, such as a blackout roller blind inside the window reveal. For small kitchen or study windows, a flat roman blind in linen-look fabric gives the same calm face with no curtain stack at the sides.

Looking for noren door curtains?

Some people searching for Japanese curtains mean noren, the short split fabric panels hung across doorways in Japanese homes, shops and restaurants. We supply custom curtains and blinds rather than ready-made noren. If you have a kitchen doorway, shop entrance or F&B counter in mind, ask us about door curtains and we will tell you plainly whether we can make what you want.

Question 1 of 5
Which room would you most like to live in?

Common questions

Is linen practical for curtains in Singapore?

It works, but pure linen creases quickly and can shrink with the wrong wash. A linen blend gives a similar look with less fuss. Keep windows ventilated, because any fabric pressed against damp glass can develop mould.

How are your curtains different from ready-made Muji-style panels?

Ready-made panels come in set widths and lengths, so they often stop short of the floor or bunch on a wide window. We measure each window and make the curtain to fit, with the heading and fullness you choose.

Can I get a dark bedroom and still keep the light, plain look?

Yes. Keep a light linen-look curtain in front and add a blackout roller blind or a separate blackout curtain behind it. The room looks the same by day and goes dark at night.

Do you make noren for doorways?

We do not stock noren. Ask us about custom door curtains with your doorway size and photos, and we will say whether it is something we can make.

Should I choose a track or a rod?

A slim ceiling track gives the cleanest line and suits ripple fold. A plain wood or black rod suits eyelet curtains and a more casual room. Both work, so it comes down to your ceiling and the furniture you have.
