Venetian blinds for Singapore homes
Picture a study in a west-facing flat at four in the afternoon. The sun comes in low across the desk, the laptop screen washes out, and closing a curtain leaves the room dim. A venetian blind lets you tilt the slats so the glare goes up towards the ceiling while daylight still comes in. Curtains SG supplies venetian blinds in aluminium and timber looks for Singapore homes, measured at a home visit.
Get a quoteHow a venetian blind works
A venetian blind is a stack of horizontal slats held together by ladder cords. A tilt control turns every slat at once, and a lift cord or wand raises all the slats to the top of the window. That gives you two separate controls. You can keep the blind down for privacy and still adjust how much light passes between the slats.
Tilting is what makes venetian blinds good for glare. With the slats angled upwards, direct sun bounces off the top of each slat towards the ceiling, so the room stays bright without a hot patch on your desk or sofa. With the slats angled downwards, you can see out while a neighbour on a lower floor sees mostly slat. Fully closed, the slats overlap and block most of the view.
They do not give full darkness. Small gaps remain at the slat edges, around the cord holes and down the sides of the frame. For a bedroom that must be dark, a blackout roller blind or blackout curtain usually does a better job.

Aluminium or wooden venetian blinds
The two main choices are aluminium slats and timber or faux wood slats. They work the same way but suit different rooms.
Best rooms for venetian blinds in Singapore homes
Kitchens are the most common place we suggest them. A window above the sink or near the hob needs something that can be wiped down and sits close to the glass, away from the flame. Aluminium slats do both. Tell us how far the window is from the stove so we can plan the fitting.
Studies and home offices are the other good fit, because you can angle the slats to keep sun off a screen through the day. Bathrooms with a frosted lower pane often take a venetian blind for the clear upper section. In bedrooms, a timber venetian blind can look good, but pair it with a blackout curtain if you need the room properly dark.

Cleaning and care
Dust settles on the top of every slat, more so in flats near a main road or a construction site. Close the slats flat and run a microfibre cloth or a duster along them every week or two, then tilt them the other way and repeat. Aluminium slats can be wiped with a damp cloth and a little mild detergent, which helps with kitchen grease.
For timber, use a dry or barely damp cloth and dry it straight away. Avoid soaking any blind in the bathtub, as water can get into the head rail and the cords.
Compared with curtains, venetian blinds need more frequent light dusting but never need taking down for a wash. If you have curtains elsewhere in the home that need cleaning, we also offer a curtain cleaning service.

Common questions
Are venetian blinds good for privacy at night?
Closed fully, the slats overlap and block most of the view in. Small gaps remain at the edges and cord holes, so someone close to the window may see light and movement. For a bedroom facing another block, many homes add a curtain in front.
Can I use a wooden venetian blind in the kitchen?
We would usually suggest aluminium or faux wood instead. Natural timber can mark or warp with steam and splashes. If you want the wood look near the sink, faux wood slats are the safer choice.
How do I measure for venetian blinds?
Send rough sizes and a photo of each window when you enquire. Exact measurements are taken at the home visit, which needs a $50 deposit that is credited to your order when you buy.
Venetian blinds or roller blinds?
Venetian blinds let you angle light and keep a partial view. Roller blinds are simpler, easier to dust and come in blackout fabric. For a desk facing afternoon sun, venetian slats give finer control. For a bedroom, a blackout roller blind usually darkens better.
