Custom curtains & blinds across Singapore

Luxury curtains for condos and landed homes

A double-height living room in a condo penthouse or a landed house in Bukit Timah or Serangoon Gardens has a window that is the first thing anyone sees. Curtains there need weight, depth and careful finishing to look good from across the room and up close. Curtains SG makes luxury curtains to measure in velvet, heavy linen and lined weaves, with layered sheers and motorised tracks, and we work alongside interior designers and contractors on these projects.

What makes a curtain look expensive

Fabric is only part of it. A luxury curtain has generous fullness, so the folds are deep even when the curtain is closed. It is lined, and often interlined, so it hangs heavily and does not cling or flutter under the aircon. The hem is weighted, the side edges are straight, and the length is measured to the centimetre at several points, because floors and ceilings are rarely perfectly level.

A cheap fabric made well usually looks better than a costly fabric made badly. We spend as much time on measuring, lining and heading choice as on the fabric itself.

Fabrics with depth

We bring large samples to the site, because velvet and silk-look fabrics change colour a great deal between daylight and evening lighting. Check each one at the window at both times if you can.

VelvetThe pile catches light differently along each fold, which gives velvet its rich look. Deep green, ink blue, champagne and dove grey are popular choices. It is heavy, so it needs a sturdy track and careful cleaning.Learn more →
Heavy linen and textured weavesFor a more understated room, a thick linen blend or bouclé-style weave gives texture without sheen and suits neutral, layered rooms.
Silk-look and satin-faced fabricsPure silk fades and weakens in strong Singapore sun. Faux silk gives the same lustre and copes better, especially when lined.
Layered sheersA fine voile behind the main curtain softens daylight and keeps the window dressed when the heavy curtains are open.Learn more →

Pleats, linings, hems and trims

Proportion counts on a tall window. A triple pleat on a narrow window can look crowded, while a light single pleat on a wide double-height window looks thin, so we suggest the heading after seeing the room.

Pinch pleatDouble or triple pinch pleats give tailored, formal folds at the top and suit velvet and heavy weaves. Ripple fold is the alternative for a sleeker, contemporary room.Learn more →
Linings and interliningsA blackout or thermal lining protects the face fabric from sun and darkens the room. An interlining between the two adds body so the folds look full.
Puddled or just off the floorA puddle of a few centimetres of fabric on the floor looks romantic but gathers dust, needs rearranging after each draw and gets caught by robot vacuums. A hem about a centimetre off the floor, or just kissing it, looks crisp and is easier to live with.
Trims and bordersA contrast leading-edge band, a woven border or a braid trim adds detail. Used on the inside edge only, it frames the window without looking busy.

Double-height windows and landed homes

Very tall drops bring practical issues. Fabric rolls have a fixed width, so a tall curtain may be made with the fabric turned sideways (railroaded) to avoid horizontal joins, and not every fabric can be used that way. A lined velvet curtain several metres long is heavy, so the track has to be rated for the weight and fixed into solid ceiling or beam, not just a false ceiling board.

On these windows, motorised tracks are close to essential. Pulling a long, heavy curtain by hand strains the track and leaves marks on the leading edge. A motor gives an even pull every time and can be set on a schedule to protect furniture from afternoon sun. Installation needs proper access equipment, which we plan for at the measuring visit.

Caring for heavy curtains

Velvet and interlined curtains should not go into a home washing machine. They shrink unevenly and the lining can separate from the face. Dust them with a soft brush attachment every few weeks, and have them professionally cleaned when they look dull. Our curtain cleaning service can clean on site or take the curtains down and rehang them afterwards.

Question 1 of 5
Which room would you most like to live in?

Common questions

Should luxury curtains puddle on the floor?

Only if you accept the upkeep. A puddle looks soft but collects dust and needs rearranging after every draw. A hem about a centimetre off the floor looks tailored and stays tidy.

Is velvet suitable for Singapore humidity?

Yes, if it is lined and the room is ventilated or air-conditioned. Velvet does attract dust, so plan for regular brushing. Avoid letting it touch glass that gets condensation.

Can heavy velvet curtains be motorised?

Yes. The motor and track are chosen for the curtain weight and width. Tell us the fabric early so we can size the motor before ordering.

Can you handle double-height windows?

Yes. We measure the full drop at several points, check the ceiling or beam for fixing and plan access for installation. Photos of the window and ceiling help us prepare.

Do you work with interior designers and contractors?

Yes. We can work from your designer's drawings and fabric choices, or bring samples to the site for them to select from.
