Condo curtains and blinds
A condo living room in Singapore often has a wall of glass from floor to ceiling, a sliding door to the balcony and a curtain box already built into the false ceiling. A west-facing unit can feel warm by three in the afternoon, and the tower across the pool may be closer than it looked at the showflat. Curtains SG measures, makes and fits condo curtains and blinds for these units, from one bedroom to every window in the flat.

Floor-to-ceiling glass and curtain boxes
Full-height glass usually suits a ceiling-mounted track hidden in the curtain box, with curtains that run from the ceiling to just above the floor. An S-fold (ripple fold) heading gives even, soft waves along a long wall of glass and stacks neatly at the side. Pinch pleat is a more tailored choice for bedrooms and dining areas. Eyelet curtains on a rod rarely fit a condo curtain box, because the rod needs wall brackets and clear space above the window.
Many owners put a sheer day curtain and a dim-out or blackout night curtain on a double track. Before you choose that, check the depth of your curtain box. A double track needs enough depth for two curtains to pass each other without rubbing, and some developer-built boxes are shallow. We measure the box at the home visit and tell you what will fit.

Typical condo windows and what fits them
Balcony sliding doorsCurtains on a track that stacks clear of the door opening are easiest to live with. Plan which side the curtain stacks to, so it does not block the half of the door you use every day.

Lined curtainsA lining behind a decorative fabric reduces heat coming through the glass and protects the face fabric from fading. Pale linings facing the glass also look tidier from outside.

Many condos have by-laws or house rules about how windows and balconies look from outside. Some ask for a consistent lining colour facing the glass, and some restrict balcony screens or outdoor blinds. Rules differ from one development to the next, so check with your management office before you order, especially for anything fitted on the balcony.
If your MCST has written guidelines, send us a copy or a photo. We can suggest a white or neutral lining so the inside fabric can be any colour you like. Some managements also want notice before drilling or renovation work, so ask about their installation hours and any forms they need.

Motorised curtains and blinds
A long, heavy curtain across a full glass wall is easier to open and close with a motorised track, and motorised blinds help with high or hard-to-reach windows. Wired motors need a power point near the track, usually inside the curtain box. If you are renovating, plan this with your contractor before the ceiling is closed up. Where wiring is not practical, ask about rechargeable motors for blinds.

Common questions
Can you install curtains in my existing curtain box?
Usually, yes. We measure the depth and width of the box at the home visit and confirm whether it takes a single or double track. If the box is too shallow for two layers, we suggest options such as a sheer with a blind behind it.
Do I need MCST approval for curtains or blinds?
Indoor curtains usually only need to follow any rule on lining colour seen from outside. Balcony blinds and outdoor zip blinds are more likely to need approval. Check with your management office before ordering.
What heading suits floor-to-ceiling windows?
S-fold (ripple fold) is a common choice because it gives even folds along a long run of glass and stacks compactly. Pinch pleat is also an option if you prefer a more formal look.
How do I keep a west-facing condo cooler?
Pair a sheer with a lined blackout or dim-out curtain, and close the heavier layer during the hottest hours. Blinds behind the curtain, or honeycomb blinds on suitable windows, add another layer.
Can I motorise curtains in a completed condo unit?
Often, yes, but it depends on whether there is power near the curtain box. We look at the existing points at the home visit. For blinds, rechargeable motors avoid new wiring in some cases.
