Kids' room curtains and blinds in Singapore

Curtains and blinds in a child's room need to darken the room for naps and early bedtimes, survive grabbing hands and sticky fingers, and keep loose cords well out of reach. We supply kids' room curtains and blinds made to measure for nurseries, toddler rooms and older children's bedrooms in HDB flats and condos.

Cords and child safety

Looped cords and chains on blinds can be a strangling hazard for young children. In a child's room, choose cordless or motorised blinds where you can, or a curtain that is drawn by hand or with a wand instead of a cord.

If a blind does use a chain or cord, have it fitted with a tensioner fixed to the wall or frame so the loop stays taut, and keep it high and away from the cot, bed, desk and anything a child could climb. Move furniture away from the window rather than relying on the cord being out of sight. We can talk through the options for each window at the measuring visit.

Naps, early bedtimes and morning sun

Children often go to bed while it is still light and wake when the sun comes up, which in Singapore is around seven all year. An east-facing room gets direct sun early, so a blackout curtain wide enough to overlap the wall, on a track close to the ceiling, makes a noticeable difference.

Keep a sheer or a dim-out option for daytime so the room is not dark all day. As children grow, the room often becomes a study as well, and adjustable light matters more than total darkness.

Avoid coated blackout for frequent washingCoated backings can crack after machine washing. A triple-weave blackout or a detachable lining copes better with regular cleaning.

Planning for a growing child

Pick a curtain fabric in a plain or calm colour and bring in the theme through bedding and wall art, which are cheaper to change later. Keep hems just clear of the floor so they do not get trodden on, pulled down or soaked during mopping. Question 1 of 5
Which room is this for?

Common questions

What are the safest blinds for a child's room?

Cordless or motorised blinds remove the hanging loop. If a blind has a chain, fit a tensioner so it stays taut and keep it out of reach of the cot or bed. Curtains on a track have no cords at all.

Do kids need blackout curtains?

Many families use blackout for naps and early bedtimes, especially in east-facing rooms. Pair it with a sheer so the room stays bright for daytime play.

Which curtain fabric is easiest to clean in a child's room?

Polyester or a polyester blend. It tolerates gentle machine washing and dries quickly. Check the care label before washing any lined curtain.

Can my child open motorised blinds on their own?

Most motors work from a remote or wall switch. Some families keep the remote with an adult for younger children and hand it over as they grow.
