Living room curtains and blinds in Singapore
The living room usually has the widest window in the flat, often a balcony door too, and it is the room where people sit through the afternoon sun. Living room curtains and blinds need to cut glare on the TV and keep the room bright enough to use, with privacy at night. We supply them made to measure for HDB, condo and landed living rooms.
Get a quoteGlare, heat and still wanting daylight
A bedroom can go fully dark. A living room usually should not, because you want to read, work and see the view during the day. The common answer is two layers on a double track, a sheer for daytime and a dim-out or lined curtain for evening and the hottest hours.
If the window faces west, draw the heavier layer before the sun reaches the glass rather than after the room has warmed. A light-coloured backing facing outside reflects more of the sun. Curtains slow heat coming in but do not cool a room, so we do not quote temperature drops.

Living room curtains often run three or four metres across, and a long, heavy lined curtain is tiring to pull every day. A ceiling track fixed every short distance spreads the weight better than a pole on end brackets, and a motorised track makes long runs easier to open.
Think about where the curtain stacks when open. On a balcony sliding door, it should stack clear of the half of the door you use, so it is not dragged through the doorway or caught on the frame. A ripple fold heading stacks slimmer than most, which keeps more of the glass clear.

Headings and fabrics that suit the room
Working out quantities
Living room curtains use a lot of fabric because the windows are wide and the drop is often floor to ceiling. The curtain calculator shows how fullness changes the fabric width needed, and the estimate tool gives a price range for the window size. We confirm exact measurements, track position and stack direction at the measuring visit.

Common questions
Should living room curtains be blackout?
Usually not. Dim-out cuts glare and keeps the room usable in daytime without switching on lights. Blackout suits a living room that doubles as a media room.
How do I stop glare on the TV?
A dim-out curtain or a Korean combi blind on the window behind or beside the screen usually solves it. Vertical blinds also let you angle light away from the TV.
Can I motorise a wide living room curtain?
Yes, if there is power near the track. On a renovation, plan the power point with your contractor before the ceiling or curtain box is closed.
Which way should a balcony door curtain stack?
Away from the side you open most. We plan the stack direction at the measuring visit so the curtain does not get in the way of the door.
