Polyester curtains in Singapore

Polyester is the most common curtain fabric in Singapore because it suits the climate. It dries fast, keeps its size in the wash, resists creasing and keeps its colour in sun. We supply polyester curtains made to measure as sheers, linen-look weaves, dim-out and blackout fabrics.

Why polyester copes with humidity

Polyester fibres absorb very little water. After rain blows through an open window, or after a wash, a polyester curtain dries much faster than cotton or linen, which gives mould less time to take hold. That makes it a sensible default for rooms with windows open most of the day, kitchens, service yards and rooms near the bathroom.

It also keeps its size. A polyester curtain washed on a gentle cycle should come back the same length, so the hem still clears the floor where it was meant to.

The trade-offs

Cheaper polyester can look flat or slightly shiny, and some people find it less pleasant to touch than natural fibres. Better-quality polyesters and blends feel softer and look far less synthetic, so look at samples in daylight at your own window before you decide.

Polyester resists fading better than cotton or linen, but strong west sun will still fade any fabric over the years. A lining, or a blind behind the curtain, slows it down.

Question 1 of 5
Which room are the curtains for?

Common questions

Is polyester a good curtain fabric for Singapore?

For most homes, yes. It dries quickly, resists mould better than natural fibres, keeps its size when washed and fades more slowly than natural fibres.

Do polyester curtains look cheap?

Low-grade polyester can look shiny. Better weaves and linen-look textures look natural, so compare samples in daylight.

Can I machine wash polyester curtains?

Most unlined polyester curtains can go on a gentle, cool cycle. Check the care label, and avoid tumble drying coated blackout fabrics.

Do polyester curtains shrink?

Very little. That is one reason polyester is popular for full-length curtains that need to keep the same hem height.
