Wooden venetian blinds in Singapore

Wooden venetian blinds use horizontal slats of real wood that tilt to angle light and privacy, and lift to clear the window. They bring warmth and a natural grain that suits Japandi, Scandinavian, tropical and colonial-style interiors, and they look good in both HDB flats and landed homes.

How wood behaves in Singapore

Wood is a natural material that takes up and releases moisture. In a dry, air-conditioned bedroom or living room, a sealed wooden slat stays stable. In a room with steam, splashes or windows left open in the rain, slats can swell, bow or show mould spots along the edges.

Strong sun also fades and dries wood over time. On a west-facing window, a wooden blind will change colour faster than one on a shaded window, and darker stains show the change more. Keep the slats tilted in the afternoon or lift the blind fully so sunlight does not hit the same faces every day.

Measuring, price and installation

Wooden venetian blinds are $10 to $13 per sq ft, installed, with a 20 sq ft minimum per blind. A home measuring visit with samples has a $50 deposit, credited to your order, and we price match written quotes for the same specification.

Wood is heavier than aluminium, so a very wide blind becomes hard to lift. We often split a wide window into two or three blinds. Inside a recess, the slats need room to tilt without hitting the window handles, which we check when we measure. When fully raised, a wooden blind forms a deeper stack at the top than a roller.

Care

Dust weekly with a soft cloth, a duster or a vacuum brush, closing the slats one way and then the other. Wipe marks with a barely damp cloth and dry at once. Do not soak, spray or use strong cleaners on wood.

Wood, faux wood or aluminium

Faux wood gives a similar look and copes with moisture, but is heavier and the grain is printed or moulded. Aluminium is lighter, cheaper and moisture-resistant, with a cooler, more practical look. Real wood is the warmest and lightest of the wood-look options, and best kept to dry rooms.

Common questions

Are wooden blinds suitable for Singapore humidity?

Yes, in dry, air-conditioned rooms. Avoid bathrooms, kitchens and windows that get rain, where wood can warp or mould.

How much do wooden blinds cost in Singapore?

Our wooden venetian blinds are $10 to $13 per sq ft, installed, with a 20 sq ft minimum per blind.

Do wooden blinds block light?

Closed slats block most light and give privacy, but some light passes at the edges and cord holes. They do not darken a room like a blackout blind.

How do I clean wooden blinds?

Dust regularly and wipe with a barely damp cloth, then dry at once. Do not soak or spray them.
