Sunscreen roller blinds in Singapore
Sunscreen roller blinds use an open-weave technical fabric that cuts glare and heat while you can still see out. They are one of the most useful blinds in Singapore, where strong sun hits many windows for hours each day and most people do not want to sit in a dark room to stay cool.

How sunscreen fabric works
The fabric is a tight mesh of coated yarns, usually polyester or fibreglass. Light passes through the small openings, and the yarns absorb or reflect much of the sun's glare and heat before it reaches the room. Fabrics are graded by openness, the share of the surface that is open. A low openness gives more glare and heat control and a dimmer view. A higher openness gives a brighter room and a clearer view.
Colour matters as much as openness. Dark fabrics give a clearer view out, because your eye looks through them more easily. Light fabrics reflect more heat back to the glass but glow brighter in sun and blur the view more.

Singapore sun, west glare and privacy
On a west-facing living room or study, a sunscreen roller pulled down from mid-afternoon cuts the glare on screens and protects floors and sofas from fading. It does not make the room dark, so it works well for a home office.
Privacy reverses at night. In the day, people outside see a plain screen because it is brighter outside. At night with lights on, they can see in. Bedrooms and low floors therefore need a second layer, such as a blackout curtain or a double roller with a blackout blind behind.

Measuring, price and installation
Roller blinds are $5 to $6.50 per sq ft, installed, with a 20 sq ft minimum per blind. A home measuring visit with samples has a $50 deposit, credited to your order, and we price match written quotes for the same specification.
Inside the recess gives a neat look, but leaves a small side gap. On full-height condo glazing, we often fit to the ceiling and split a wide window into several blinds of even width, so the hems line up when lowered.

Care
Dust with a soft brush or vacuum on low suction. Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not scrub hard or soak the fabric, since that can damage the coating.

Compared with nearby options
A voile curtain also softens light but does less for heat and glare. A Korean combi blind gives adjustable bands of sheer and solid fabric in one blind. A dim-out roller darkens more, but you lose the view.

Common questions
Can people see through sunscreen blinds at night?
Yes, when your lights are on and it is dark outside. Add a blackout or dim-out layer for night privacy.
Do sunscreen roller blinds reduce heat?
Yes. They absorb or reflect much of the sun's heat before it enters the room, while keeping the view.
Which colour sunscreen blind gives the best view?
Darker colours give a clearer view out. Lighter colours reflect more heat but blur the view slightly.
How much do sunscreen roller blinds cost?
Our roller blinds are $5 to $6.50 per sq ft installed, with a 20 sq ft minimum per blind.
