Pick the direction your window faces and see when direct sun reaches it, month by month, in Singapore.
How the checker works
For each month it calculates the sun's position over Singapore every ten minutes, using the standard solar position equations for latitude 1.35°N. The sun counts as reaching your window when it is above the horizon and in front of the glass at a useful angle, rather than just grazing it. The bars show those times, and the total is the average across the year.
Use it with the curtain or blind finder, or read whether blackout curtains keep heat out.
Common questions
Which window direction gets the most sun in Singapore?
East and west. Singapore is almost on the equator, so the sun rises close to due east and sets close to due west all year. East windows get morning sun and west windows get the hotter afternoon sun.
Do north and south facing windows get direct sun?
Some, seasonally. From about May to August the sun passes slightly to the north, so north-facing windows catch it; from about November to February it passes to the south. Even then the sun is high, so it rarely shines deep into the room.
What blinds are best for afternoon glare?
A sunscreen roller blind cuts glare on screens while keeping the view. For heat and full shade in the late afternoon, add a dim-out or blackout curtain.
Does this account for neighbouring blocks?
No. It shows the sun on an unobstructed window. Nearby blocks, ledges and balconies shade many HDB windows for part of the day, so treat it as the most sun your window could get.
