Kitchen blinds in Singapore
Kitchen blinds sit close to the glass, wipe clean and keep fabric away from the hob, which is why they suit most Singapore kitchens better than full curtains. They work for the window over the sink, the service yard and corridor-facing kitchens in HDB flats. We measure and fit them alongside curtains for the rest of the home.

A kitchen has steam from the rice cooker and kettle, fine oil from frying, and splashes from the sink. Fabric absorbs grease and smells and needs washing often. A blind made from aluminium, PVC or a wipeable roller fabric copes with all three and can be cleaned in place with a damp cloth.
Space is the other reason. A kitchen window often has a tap, a cabinet or a ledge right beside it, leaving nowhere for a curtain to stack. A blind fitted inside the recess keeps the counter clear.

Keep anything soft away from the hob
Never hang fabric near a gas flame or a hot cooktop. If the window sits beside or behind the hob, a blind that stays flat in the recess is the safer option, and leaving the window bare is fine where privacy is not an issue. Follow your hob maker's clearance guidance and any fire safety advice for your building. We will point out at the visit if a window is too close to the cooking area for any soft treatment.

Kitchen blind options
Aluminium venetian blindsThe usual choice for HDB kitchens. Slats wipe clean, cope with steam and tilt to block the corridor while letting light in from above.Learn more →
Roller blinds in a wipeable fabricA flat, clean look that rolls up out of the way. Ask for a fabric made for damp rooms, since not every roller fabric is.Learn more →
PVC venetian blindsHandle damp well and do not rust, though the slats are thicker than aluminium and can sag on a wide window.Learn more →
A short curtain on a separate windowA café or sill-length curtain can work on a window well away from the cooking area, if you prefer a softer look.Learn more →Corridor privacy in HDB kitchens
In many HDB flats the kitchen window faces the common corridor, and with the lights on at night anyone walking past can see in. A venetian blind with the slats angled upward blocks the view at eye level while the kitchen stays bright. A roller blind gives full cover when it is down but no light at the same time, so it suits a window used mainly in the evening.
Service yard windows beside the washing machine are often damp and partly screened by laundry already. A simple aluminium venetian is usually enough there.

Keep the bottom rail dryRaise the blind before washing up so the bottom rail does not sit in the splash zone of the tap.Common questions
What is the best blind for a kitchen in Singapore?
Aluminium venetian blinds are the most common choice. They wipe clean, tolerate steam and let you angle slats for privacy. A roller blind in a wipeable fabric also works.
Can I put a blind on a window next to the stove?
A flat blind fitted inside the recess is safer than a curtain, but it still needs to be clear of the flame. If the window is right behind the hob, we may suggest leaving it bare.
Will a roller blind get mouldy in a kitchen?
Fabric that stays damp can. Choose a roller fabric made for humid rooms, keep the cooker hood running and raise the blind so it can dry.
Do venetian blinds rust in a kitchen?
Aluminium does not rust, though the cord and fittings should be kept dry. PVC is another option for very damp windows.
