Curtain fabric quiz

Five quick questions about your room, your household and how much cleaning you want. You get a fabric and the reasons.

Question 1 of 5
Which room are the curtains for?

How the fabric quiz decides

Singapore homes are humid and sunny, so the quiz weighs practical things first: kids, pets and cleaning push towards washable polyester, strong afternoon sun towards thermal or dim-out fabric, and rooms with little sun leave room for linen, velvet and cotton. Your answer to the last question, the feel you want, breaks ties.

Common questions

What is the best curtain fabric for Singapore?

Polyester and polyester blends cope best with humidity and sun: they resist creasing, mould and fading, and most can be washed at home. Linen-look polyester gives the natural look without the upkeep.

Is linen good for curtains in Singapore?

Pure linen looks beautiful but creases, can shrink when washed and fades in strong sun. A linen blend or linen-look polyester is easier to live with.

Which curtain fabric is best with kids and pets?

A tightly woven polyester that can go in the washing machine. Avoid velvet and loose weaves, which catch fur and snag.

Which fabric blocks heat from west-facing windows?

Thermal or blackout curtains with a coated backing reflect some of the afternoon sun heat. Pair with a sheer for daylight earlier in the day.
