How the drop is worked out

The drop is the finished length from the top of the curtain to its hem. We start from the height of the track or ceiling, take off a small allowance for the gliders and hooks, then stop the hem at the point you chose: about 1cm above the floor, touching it, 1cm above the sill, or 15cm below the sill.

Want the width and fabric too? Use the curtain width and fabric calculator, then the track length calculator. If you would rather we measure, book a visit.

Common questions

How long should curtains be?

Most made-to-measure curtains in Singapore homes finish about 1cm above the floor, so they hang straight and do not collect dust. Sill-length curtains finish just above the window sill, and below-sill curtains about 15cm under it.

Should curtains touch the floor?

A curtain that just touches or breaks on the floor looks soft, but it picks up dust and damp from mopping. In humid Singapore flats, finishing slightly above the floor is easier to live with.

Do I measure from the track or the ceiling?

Measure from where the curtain will hang. With a ceiling track that is the ceiling; with a wall track or rod it is the underside of the track or the top of the rod. The calculator subtracts the hook and glider allowance for you.

What if my floor is not level?

Measure the drop at the left, middle and right and use the shortest figure. The fitter confirms it at the measuring visit before anything is made.
