Invisible grilles in Singapore
An invisible grille is a set of thin, high-tensile stainless steel cables held under tension in aluminium tracks fixed to the top and bottom, or the sides, of a window or balcony opening. From a few metres away the cables almost disappear, so you keep the view and the breeze while closing the gap a child could climb through.

Why Singapore homes choose invisible grilles
Most Singapore homes are high up. Parents with toddlers want every window and balcony closed off, but traditional metal grilles make a flat feel boxed in and block part of the view they paid for. Invisible grilles keep the opening looking open.
They also suit homes with cats, though fine cat mesh is the better choice where a cat could squeeze between cables. Because the cables are stainless steel, they cope with rain on an open balcony and the salty air in east coast estates better than painted mild steel.

How they are built
HDB and condo rules
Grilles must not protrude beyond the external wall or window line in an HDB flat, so invisible grilles are fitted inside the opening. Check with HDB or your MCST before installing. Condos usually need MCST approval for anything visible from outside, and some developments set the colour or position of grilles. We can provide product details and drawings for your application.

Measuring and installation notes
Send photos of each window or balcony with rough widths and heights. We quote from the photos and sizes, then confirm at a measuring visit, where we check the frame, wall and ceiling for a solid fixing. Casement windows in HDB flats open outward, so the grille is set inside so the windows can still open and close. Installation of a typical flat is usually done in one visit.

Care and checks
Wipe the cables with a damp cloth when you clean the windows. Check the tension every few months by pressing a cable gently; if one feels slack, ask for it to be retensioned. Do not hang laundry, plants or hooks on the cables, since added weight and wear shorten their life.

Common questions
Are invisible grilles allowed in HDB flats?
They are commonly fitted in HDB flats, but grilles must not protrude beyond the window line. Check with HDB before installing.
Do condos allow invisible grilles?
Many do, but condos usually need MCST approval first. Some set the position or colour, so ask your management office.
Can I still open my windows with invisible grilles?
Yes. The grille is set inside the opening, clear of the window sash, so casement and sliding windows still open.
How much do invisible grilles cost in Singapore?
It depends on the number of openings and their size. We quote from photos and sizes, then confirm at a measuring visit.
