Mosquito screens for windows and doors in Singapore
A mosquito screen is a fine insect mesh fitted over a window or door so you can leave it open for air without letting mosquitoes, flies and moths in. In Singapore, where Aedes mosquitoes spread dengue and many homes rely on open windows and fans, a screen lets you keep the breeze without spraying the house.

Why screens matter here
Aedes mosquitoes bite in the day as well as at dusk, so they slip in through a window left open for a cross breeze. Homes near parks, canals and construction sites see more of them. A screen is a physical barrier that works quietly every day, alongside the usual advice of clearing standing water at home.
Screens also keep out geckos, moths and the odd bird, and they cut some of the dust that blows in from a busy road.

Types of mosquito net
HDB casement windows
Most HDB casement windows open outward, so the screen has to go on the inside of the frame. That means you open the screen, push the window out, then close the screen again. A pleated or sliding screen makes this quick. On a window with a handle that sticks out, we check the screen will clear it before quoting.

Measuring and installation notes
Send photos of each window or door, showing the frame and the handle, with rough sizes. We quote from the photos and sizes, then confirm at a measuring visit. Frames in older flats are often slightly out of square, so we measure each corner rather than one width and one height. Screens are fitted to the window frame or the wall reveal, and leave space for a curtain or blind in front.

Care
Vacuum the mesh with a brush attachment every few weeks, or wipe it with a damp cloth. Magnetic panels can be lifted off and rinsed. Keep the tracks of sliding and pleated screens clear of dust and insects so they run smoothly. A torn mesh panel can be replaced without changing the frame.

How to choose
Use pleated screens for doors and windows you open every day, sliding screens for sliding windows, and magnetic or fixed panels for windows you rarely touch. In a bedroom, pair the screen with blackout curtains for sleep; in the kitchen, a moisture-resistant blind sits well in front of a screen.

Common questions
Do mosquito screens block airflow?
A little. Fine mesh reduces the breeze slightly, but you can keep windows open for longer, which usually means more air overall.
Can I fit a mosquito net on HDB casement windows?
Yes. Because the windows open outward, the screen goes on the inside of the frame. Pleated and sliding types are easiest to use.
Are magnetic mosquito nets good for renters?
Yes. They fix without drilling into the frame in most cases and come off when you move out. Check with your landlord first.
How much does a mosquito screen cost?
It depends on the type and the number and size of openings. We quote from your photos and sizes, then confirm at a measuring visit.
