Cat mesh for windows and balconies in Singapore

Cat mesh is a strong mesh screen fitted across a window, balcony or service yard opening so a cat cannot jump, squeeze or fall through. Cats chase birds and insects without judging height, and in high-rise Singapore homes a fall from an open window is one of the main risks they face.

Why cat owners in Singapore use it

Most flats are several storeys up, and cats will sit on a ledge or squeeze through a gap a hand's width wide. Keeping every window shut is not practical in our heat. Cat mesh lets you leave windows and balcony doors open for air while the cat stays inside.

Cat mesh differs from a mosquito screen. Insect mesh is fine and soft, and a cat can claw or push through it. Cat mesh uses a thicker, tougher material and a stronger frame or fixing so it holds when a cat leans or jumps against it.

Mesh options

Framed window panelsA rigid frame with pet-grade mesh fitted inside the window frame. Suits casement and sliding windows.
Balcony enclosureMesh fixed from floor to ceiling across a balcony opening, so the cat can use the balcony safely.
Removable panelsPanels held by tension or brackets that come out without damaging the frame. A rental-friendly choice.
Mesh plus invisible grilleSome homes combine an invisible grille for children with cat mesh behind it, since cats can slip between cables.Learn more →

Mesh strength

Look for a mesh described as pet-resistant or pet-grade, with a tight weave that resists claws. Frame and fixing matter as much as the mesh itself: a strong mesh on a weak clip will pop out. We fix into solid parts of the frame or wall and check every edge for gaps a paw could prise open.

HDB and condo rules

Mesh is fitted within the opening so nothing protrudes outside the building. Check with HDB or your MCST before installing. Condos usually need MCST approval for balcony enclosures, and some ask for a set colour so the facade stays uniform.

Measuring and installation notes

Send photos of each window, door and balcony, with rough sizes and a note on which ones the cat uses. We quote from your photos and sizes, then confirm at a measuring visit. For HDB casement windows that open outward, the mesh panel sits inside the frame and opens like a door or slides aside. Plan cat mesh before new curtains so tracks and brackets do not clash.

Care

Vacuum fur and dust off the mesh with a brush attachment, and wipe with a damp cloth. Check edges and corners every few months, since a determined cat will test the weakest point. Damaged mesh can be replaced in the same frame.

Common questions

Can a cat tear through a mosquito net?

Yes, ordinary insect mesh is too soft. Use pet-grade cat mesh with a strong frame on any window a cat can reach.

Is there cat mesh for rented flats?

Yes. Removable panels held by tension or brackets can be taken out when you move. Check with your landlord before installing.

Do I need approval for balcony cat mesh?

Check with HDB or your MCST before installing. Condos usually need MCST approval for anything fixed across a balcony.

How much does cat mesh cost in Singapore?

It depends on the number and size of openings and the type of frame. We quote from photos and sizes, then confirm at a measuring visit.
