Window film in Singapore
Window film is a thin polyester layer applied to the inside of the glass. Depending on the type, it blurs the view in, cuts heat and glare from the sun, or does both. It stays on the glass all the time, so it works even when curtains and blinds are open.

Why Singapore homes use window film
Blocks sit close together, and many HDB bathroom and kitchen windows face a corridor or a neighbour's window. Frosted film gives privacy there without a blind to clean in a damp room. West-facing living rooms and bedrooms take strong afternoon sun, and a heat reduction film cuts some of the heat and glare before it reaches the curtains.
Film also reduces the UV that fades sofas, timber floors and curtain fabric.

Types of window film
The limits of one-way film
One-way film only works when the outside is brighter than the inside. At night, with your lights on, the effect reverses and people outside can see in while you see a mirror. For bedrooms and living rooms you still need a curtain or blind for night privacy. Frosted film does not have this problem, but you lose the view.

Window film for HDB and condo homes
Film is applied on the inside of the glass, so it does not change the window frame. Highly reflective film can change how the building looks from outside, so check with HDB or your MCST before installing. Condos usually need MCST approval for anything visible from the facade, and some limit the tint.

Measuring and installation notes
Send photos of each window with rough glass sizes and the direction it faces. We quote from the photos and sizes, then confirm at a measuring visit, where we check the glass type. On the day, the glass is cleaned, the film is applied wet, smoothed and trimmed to the edge. Small haze or water spots are normal for the first days while the film cures; avoid cleaning it during that time.

Care and how to choose
Clean with a soft cloth and a mild, non-ammonia glass cleaner. Avoid scrapers and abrasive pads. For a bathroom, choose frosted film. For a hot west-facing room, choose heat reduction film and keep a sunscreen roller blind or lined curtain for the worst hours. If you mainly want daytime privacy and a view out, a sheer curtain may suit better than film.

Common questions
Does one-way window film work at night?
No. At night with lights on inside, people outside can see in. Use curtains or blinds for night privacy.
Can I put window film on HDB windows?
Film is applied inside the glass and is common in HDB flats. For reflective film, check with HDB before installing.
Is window film good for bathroom windows?
Yes. Frosted film gives privacy day and night and does not hold moisture the way fabric does.
How much does window film cost?
It depends on the film type and the glass area. We quote from your photos and sizes, then confirm at a measuring visit.
